By 2025, the Census Bureau projects that Hispanic people will comprise over 23% of the total population with 79 million residing in the United States. By 2060 the Census Bureau projects the numbers to rise to 28% and 119 million respectively.
The Hispanic Trends & Behaviors report estimates that over 39 million Hispanic adults are making purchasing decisions online. Today Hispanic buying power has reached $1.5 trillion and is expected to hit $1.8 trillion by 2020. The Hispanic consumer is widely recognized as a cornerstone of any growth initiative for virtually all U.S. industries.
As the Hispanic population continues to grow, Hispanics remain disproportionately under-represented in the legal field.
While a law career can provide entrée into influential sectors of society along with a higher income, the academic requirements, long process, and high costs involved seem to be discouraging many Hispanics from pursuing a Law degree. As a result, say legal experts, educators, and professionals, the lack of Hispanic attorneys will impact the Hispanic community’s advancement for years to come.
According to statistics, Hispanics – who are 18 percent of the population – comprise only about 4 percent of U.S. lawyers. For Hispanic women, these numbers are even lower accounting for less than 2 percent of lawyers.
